[German]I'll combine two topics into one post. Google has released its Android 15 (Vanilla Ice Cream) as an Android Open Source Project (ASOP). This means that the operating system is available for various mobile device manufacturers – they can port Android 15 to their models and roll it out. I also received (surprisingly) Android 14 on the Motorola Moto G13 a few weeks ago.

Android 15 released as ASOP
Google employee Matthew McCullough (VP of Product Management) has made the release of Android 15 as ASOP public on September 3, 2024 in this Google blog post. Android 15 was released on this date and the source code is available to interested parties as part of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Android 15 will be available on supported Google Pixel devices in the coming weeks and on selected devices from Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo and Xiaomi in the coming months.
In the blog post, McCullough also provides an overview of the new features of Android 15, some of which are very much aimed at developers. A list of new features for developers may be found also here. Anyone interested in the new features from a user perspective can find an overview in this article.
Android 14 for my Moto G13
While some people are already eyeing the above-mentioned Android 15 and hoping to get it on their devices "soon", the situation is different for the majority of Android users. While Apple can roll out its iOS and iPadOS to all supported devices in a timely manner, Android device manufacturers have to adapt this operating system for their own platform.
Android 14 was released in October 2023, and many supported devices should have received this update in late 2023 or early 2024. I also have the Motorola Moto G13 in my fleet – it was delivered with Android 13. My hope was to receive the update to Android 14 early in spring 2024 so that I could include it in my Android book for seniors. But it wasn't to be – and it wasn't that important after all.

I had actually already written off Android 14 for this model and was therefore very surprised when I was offered a corresponding update on the Moto G13 "a few days ago". The screenshot above shows me that the update notification was already sent on July 24, 2024 – since I had my cardio procedure at the beginning of August, it went unnoticed.
Various screens were displayed during the update installation. The screenshot above shows that the update comprises 1.53 GB and the user is offered links to find out about the new features. I initiated the update via Update now and the installation went through quite quickly.
