I myself became a freelance author on October 1, 1993, 31 ago. I never played DOOM, but the following video brought back some nostalgic feelings:
Back then, PCs were booted with MS-DOS and many computers had a turbo switch. Shareware was software that you could get and test on floppy disks. For regular use, the author of the shareware asked for a small donation.
I personally tested some shareware programs – they were available for little money on 3 1/2 inch floppy disks at the time. This was also how I got my hands on a strange program called Linux – version 0.x at the time. I even got it to run on the black and white X window screen under MS-DOS.
Doom is a game from the first-person shooter series, which was released by id Software on December 10, 1993. Due to its 3D graphics and commercial success, the title is considered a milestone in the field of computer games. It's been a long time ago …
