I became aware of the following tweet in mid-December 2024, which links to the Techcommunity post Announcing Public Preview of the New Message Trace in Exchange Online.

Message Trace in Exchange Online as Preview

The public preview of the new message tracking has been available since mid-December 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of December 2024. Administrators will then be able to access the new message tracking and its features by default in the Exchange Administration Center (EAC) of Exchange Online. To do so, they will need to navigate to Exchange Administration Center > Mailflow > Message Tracking.

The figure above shows that the new Message Trace is enabled by default once the change has been deployed to the tenant. To deactivate the preview, the relevant setting must be set to "Off".
