Microsoft already announced this at the beginning of May 2025 under the ID MC1066155 (Microsoft SharePoint Online: [Important update] Enabling a new Public Content Delivery Network (CDN) domain) in the Microsoft 365 Message Center.
Microsoft will migrate the hosting of Microsoft SharePoint Online assets to a new CDN (Content Delivery Network) service, Microsoft Azure Front Door (AFD). This migration will begin in June 2025 and end in July 2025.
As part of this migration, Microsoft is introducing a new public CDN domain public-cdn.sharepointonline.com. Organizations should add the new domain public-cdn.sharepointonline.com to their allowlist on the network.
If domain-based allowlists are enabled in the network configurations, ensure that the new public-cdn.sharepointonline.com domain is also included. The hardcoding of CDN URLs must be avoided and the old domain must continue to be allowed until revoked by Microsoft. According to Microsoft, no administrative measures are required before the rollout.
