[German]Microsoft has slightly adjusted its criteria for delicensing resiliency for Exchange Online tenants. Now Exchange Online tenants with fewer than 10,000 licenses can also benefit from this function. This helps administrators who remove licenses in a tenant to prevent the mailbox from immediately becoming inoperable. Instead, there is a grace period.
What is Delicensing Resiliency?
Delicensing Resiliency ensures smooth operation by providing a 30-day grace period on license removal, minimizing disruption. The feature protects against accidental or unintentional delicensing of Exchange Online mailboxes (usually due to errors in group-based license assignments).
What is changing with delicensing resiliency?
Previously, Microsoft only granted delicensing resiliency for Exchange Online tenants with more than 10,000 licenses. On July 15, 2025, Microsoft announced in the Techcommunity article Reduced License Count Requirement for Exchange Online Delicensing Resiliency Feature that it had lowered the license count threshold.
The Exchange Online Delicensing Resiliency feature is now available for tenants with more than 5,000 Exchange Online licenses without a trial period. This is in response to feedback from many customers who were keen to use this feature but were previously below the authorization threshold. Microsoft is in the process of updating the feature's documentation to reflect this change.
