Office Online Server will reach end of support on December 31, 2026.

Windows[German]Microsoft announced the end of support for its Office Online Server in a TechCommunity post titled "Announcing the retirement for Office Online Server" on October 21, 2025. After this date, Office Online Server will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support from Microsoft.

I don't know whether Office Online Server was widely used among readers – I only noticed from articles on Office updates that Microsoft had been providing updates for the product. Office Online Server was developed to provide browser-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for local environments.

As companies increasingly switch to Microsoft 365, Microsoft is focusing its investments in browser-based Office applications on Office for the web in order to provide these features via Microsoft 365. Companies and IT departments are advised to prepare for the switch to this Microsoft 365 solution at an early stage. (via)
