A brief announcement that, in my opinion, will have little impact. Microsoft will finally discontinue SharePoint add-ins in Microsoft 365 in spring 2026.
The add-ins enable access to Microsoft SharePoint content in Microsoft 365. However, it has not been possible to install these add-ins via the public marketplace since July 1, 2024. And Microsoft 365 tenants had already lost all rights to use these add-ins as of November 1, 2024.
Now, on October 3, 2025, Microsoft explicitly stated in the Microsoft 365 Message Center in a post titled MC693865 – SharePoint Add-In retirement in Microsoft 365 that it will discontinue support for these add-ins on April 2, 2026. The SharePoint add-ins will no longer work after this date.
Companies should switch to SharePoint Framework (SPFx) and prepare users and administrators accordingly. The support article also contains information on what administrators can do to remind users and developers of this expiration date.
