I've blogged about Firefox Version 55 within my German blog (Firefox 55 mit vielen Neuerungen freigegeben). My German blog posts received many user feedback – especially the advised performance improvements hasn't been observed. Then Firefox Version 55.0.1 with several bug fixes has been released (Mozilla Firefox 55.0.1 erschienen), and my blog readers told me, the new version has a performance improvement. But they are missing auto update …
Firefox Version 55.0.2
Now Mozilla has released Firefox Version 55.0.2 as a maintenance update. The Release-Notes lists the following items for the desktop version.
- Fix a potential issue when the username had some specific characters in the path (Bug 1388584)
- Fix an issue with new installation notification for sideload add-ons (Bug 1372448)
- Fix performance regressions with WebExtension (Bugs 1386937 %26 1389381)
- Fix a regression with the popup menu (Bug 1388682)
The most important issue fixed, wasn't mentioned. It seems, that auto update is working now. My German Firefox portable has shown me the following popup after start.
What's missing: A restart message to install the update after download. I used the Firefox menu, the help, then About Firefox, to invoke the dialog box below.

There was a message saying that I need to restart Firefox 55.0.1 to install the new update. After restart, the new version 55.0.2 was installed.
