Cumulative Update KB4093105 applies to Windows 10 version 1709 and includes quality improvements, but no new new operating system features. The kb article contains a huge list of fixes, where the most important are.

  • Addresses an issue in which running an application as an administrator causes the application to stop working when pasting the user name or password into the user elevation prompt (LUA).
  • Addresses an issue that causes Skype and Xbox to stop working.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents Autodiscover in Microsoft Outlook 2013 from being used to set up email accounts when UE-V is enabled.
  • Addresses an issue with the first launch performance of UWP Desktop Bride apps.
  • Addresses an issue with the Search tab of Microsoft Outlook 2016 during the upgrade from Windows 10, version 1703, to Windows 10, version 1709.
  • Addresses an issue that causes updates for large game apps to fail.
  • Addresses an issue that removes user-pinned folders or tiles from the Start menu in some cases
  • Addresses an issue that causes invisible apps to appear in the Start menu.
  • Addresses an issue that might cause some users to experience unexpected panning or scrolling in certain apps while using the pen.

All details may be read here. This update is cumulative, it installs missing patches from previous updates and will be distributed automatically via Windows Update. The package is also available in Microsoft Update Catalog.

Know Issue

There is a know issue: Windows Update History reports that KB4054517 failed to install because of error 0x80070643.

Even though the update was successfully installed, Windows Update incorrectly reports that the update failed to install. To verify the installation and that there are no additional updates available, select Check for Updates.

You can also type About your PC in the search box on the taskbar to verify that your device is using the expected OS build, where 16299.402 should be reported.

Hey Microsoft, what's up with the Windows Update KB4093105, released on 4/23/2018? Lots of users, including me, are having problems with installation. Here's the details…

    1. KB4093105 downloads and begins installation with no problems…or so it seems.
    2. This update installs up to 30%, then my computer reboots, then finishes installing the remaining 70%. And then…
    3. An error appears telling me it couldn't complete the update, undoing changes, don't turn off your computer.

I tried to install KB4093105 via Windows Update twice, once with the download/standalone version from the Microsoft Online Catalog and all three times I got the same error. Then it tried to install a 4th time on its own and again failed.

I tried the steps at these locations…

    1. https://windowsreport.com/kb4093105-issues/

    2. https://windowsreport.com/windows-update-error-0x800f0922/

    3. https://windowsreport.com/we-couldnt-complete-the-updatesundoing-changes/

    …but no such luck.

Anyone know what else I can try? In the meantime, I have disabled Windows Update to prevent further attempts to download/install KB4093105.

The only approach I can suggest, try to analyze the install logs – see my article Windows 10: Analyze upgrade errors. Sometimes the error code and the log files gives a clue, what prevents the update install.

BTW: And don't use the Repair-Tools offered on Windows Report – just for the records.

Thanks for your response, guenni. I just tried running the Windows Update Troubleshooter and it detected corruptions in the Windows Update Installed Updates list. I let it fix that, but I won't let it detect and install pending updates until I'm sure the problem is fixed.
