SQL Server 2014: Service Pack 3 released

Windows Update[German]Microsoft released Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2014 at the end of October 2018. This Service Pack contains a couple of fixes and improvements for SQL Server 2014.

I was notified about that update via e-mail by German blog reader @dekre. He reported, that Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2014 was offered via Windows Update as KB4022619. In his case, the SQL Server 2014 was installed by a special software. Therefore he asked in the vendor's forum whether the update should be installed or not – an answer from this vendor is currently pending.

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3s

The Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Packs are cumulative updates. SQL Server 2014 SP3 updates all editions and service levels from SQL Server 2014 to SQL Server 2014 SP3. According to this Microsoft KB article, SQL Server version 12.0.6024.0 should be displayed after installing the service pack. How to determine this version is linked in the KB article.

On the Microsoft page for update KB4022619 you can find both the download links and lists with the fixes that will be installed by the update. In addition, this MSDN blog post lists the improvements made by SP3. There you can inform yourself about everything you need to know about the update of SQL-Server 2014.
