[German]The developers of the e-mail client Thunderbird have now released version 68.4.2. This is a maintenance update (no security fixes) for the 68 main version of the email client.

German blog reader Ralf already dropped a note in this comment (thanks for that). Of course I immediately tested with my old version 68.4.1, and was offered the new version.
If you are still using the old 60er version of Thunderbird, this update is now also offered. According to the release notes the above statement is confirmed (but was already so with version 68.3.1).
Thunderbird version 68.4.2 provides an automatic update from Thunderbird version 60. If you have installed Lightning, Thunderbird's calendar add-on, it will automatically be updated to match the new version of Thunderbird. Refer to this Calendar troubleshooting article in case of problems.
In the new version of Thunderbird the colors of the task and event trees in the calendar have been adjusted to the dark theme. In addition, the following fixes have been made in the version:
- Retrieval of S/MIME certificates from LDAP failed
- Crash of address assignment on some IMAP servers when the setting mail.imap.use_envelope_cmd is used
- Incorrect routing of HTML messages caused SMTP servers to respond with a timeout
- The calendar: Various parts of the calendar interface did not work anymore when a second Thunderbird window is opened.
The readme suggests that security fixes have been made. But this is not true according to this page, because the mentioned vulnerabilities were already fixed in Thunderbird 68.4.1. I gave an assessment on this topic in the article about Thunderbird 68.4.1 (the vulnerability isn't useable in Thunderbird in normal circumstances, 68.4.1 was a 'synchronisation update with Firefox').
Known issue: When upgrading from Thunderbird version 60 to version 68, add-ons are not updated automatically during the upgrade process. However, they are updated during the add-on update check. It is of course possible to reinstall compatible add-ons via the Add-On Manager or via addons.thunderbird.net.
