John McAfee, the founder of the eponymous security software maker, is dead. He was found dead in his jail cell in Barcelona, according to authorities, hours after a Spanish court approved his extradition to the U.S. There are indications that the 75-year-old died by suicide.

McAfee had been arrested at Barcelona airport in 2020. The U.S. had brought charges of tax offenses and requested an international arrest warrant.
Spanish magazine El Pais writes that Mc Afee was found dead today (6/23/2021) in his cell at Barcelona's Brians 2 prison, located in Sant Esteve de Sesrovires. This was revealed in a statement issued by the police. It said that the dead man was found hanging in his cell.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the prison guards who found him hanging in his cell, as well as the medical services at the prison, provided him with medical care, but were probably unable to revive Mc Afee. The Catalan regional police are investigating the incident, according to the Spanish Ministry of Justice, and the evidence that points to a suicide.
