Acronis True Image renamed to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office

Another brief note for users of the Acronis backup software True Image. It will soon no longer exist, because Acronis marketing has decided that a new name is needed. The software is now called Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office. The background to this is that additional features such as a cryptomining blocker, virus protection and anti-malware have been integrated.

These people have totally lost the plot. They provided backup products – you know, to make copies of your data and systems. Now they aspire to be an A/V product?

I guess there is more money in collecting telemetry from A/V's and selling it than there is in actually providing useful products that protect your data.

The list of useful backup programs is shrinking fast. Even Macrium went rogue, but at least their core business is still essentially the same.

This is the dumbest business "plan" imaginable. Everyone already has some AV product, free or paid. Many are fine with Microsoft Defender (a free tool that hits every AV vendors' sales potential). Who's going to want theirs just to run backups and restores?

Also, that name is already terrible, in a couple of years it will be positively embarrassing.
