Citrix ADV Virtual Appliance 13.0.85 is breaking Gateway-Service

Short information for administrators of Citrix systems. Citrix ADV Virtual Appliance 13.0.85 seems to cause problems with Citrix Gateway Services. After importing the VPX and configuring the ADC, the Citrix Gateway login page (ICA proxy) may not be accessible.

I came across this issue on Twitter via the following tweet from Julian Mooren. Mooren encountered this issue while testing, which points to a bug.

He used a fresh ADC VPX with firmware 13.0-85.15 and writes about it:

After importing the VPX and configuring the ADC, I could not reach the Citrix Gateway (ICA proxy) login page.  It gave the error message:

403 – Forbidden – You don't have permission to access this resource.

After a brief analysis of the problem, which Mooren described in more detail in this post, he found that the logon directory was missing from the firmware. After taking the "logon" folder from a working VPX (same build – but updated) and copying it to the correct location on the offending unit, the Citrix Gateway service was accessible with the login screen.

  1. Private says:

Citrix silently updated the build file without changing the version or release date.
