[German]The developers of Thunderbird have released another update of the email client to version 102.2.2 as of z. September 2022 (thanks to the reader for pointing this out). It is a bug fix update, which should fix a number of problems. Because somehow, the 102 development thread of Thunderbird is a disaster (see Thunderbird 102er: The problem bear). (siehe Thunderbird: Die Probleme der 102er-Version).

Thunderbird 102.2.2
According to the Thunderbird release notes, a setting (calendar.events.defaultActionEdit) has been added as a change in this version to change the calendar event double-click action to open the Edit Event dialog box rather than just the view (set the value to true). In addition, there are fixes to the following bugs that are listed as fixed:
- Running Compact Folders on maildir folders caused a re-download of all messages in the folder.
- Access to mail folders in profiles with many folders was slow (this probably annoyed many users)
- SMTP servers were not always initialized correctly and were not listed in the account settings
- APOP authentication was not supported when connecting to a POP3 server
- OpenPGP key detection failed
- POP accounts hosted by AOL could not be authenticated with OAuth2
- The context menu in the header of newsgroups could not be opened for unsubscribed groups
This update fixes a number of issues that have been bugging users. I myself am still on the 91 Thunderbird version, as I had problems with empty mails in the 102. So one should be cautious with the update and backup the profile before.
Tip: Going back to an old Thunderbird version after updating to a newer version is rejected if the profile is updated (see also). I fell into this trap some time ago. With an updated profile a downgrade is only possible with tricks by starting Thunderbird with the –allow-downgrade option (see also).
The system requirements for the different operating system versions (see here for more details):
- Windows: Windows 7 or higher
- Mac: Mac OS X 10.12 or higher
- Linux: GTK+ 3.14 or higher
The download of the free Thunderbird is available here.
