Office Updates from August 6, 2024

[German]Small addendum from Tuesday this week. On August 6, 2024 (first Tuesday of the month), Microsoft released non-security updates for Microsoft Office 2016. I'll summarize some information about these updates here in the blog.

Regular Office update

On the first Tuesday of the month, Microsoft releases non-security updates for versions of Microsoft Office that are still supported. The updates apply to the installable MSI version of Office and are delivered via Windows Update. Click-to-run packages receive the updates via other channels. For this reason, Office 2019 no longer appears in the list below, where only click-to-run installers are available. Microsoft lists the MSI updates on this page.

Office 2016

The packages are distributed automatically via Windows Update, but can also be downloaded and installed manually via the linked KB articles.

• KB5002589: Update for Microsoft Access 2016. This update fixes an issue where Access 2016 displays the encoded URL in the Save As dialog box when the file name contains Unicode characters. Also fixes an issue where users receive the error "Template could not be instantiated" in Access 2016 if the template name contains unsupported XML characters.
• KB5002582: Update for Microsoft Visio 2016. This update prevents the automatic activation and loading of Ole (Object Linking and Embedding) in the Visio desktop application.

The update(s) are provided automatically via Windows Update, but can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center and installed manually. Incidentally, Office 2016 dropped out of mainstream support on October 13, 2020, but will continue to receive security updates until October 14, 2025. There are no more updates for Office 2013.
