Windows 11 23H2 Preview-Update KB5050092 (Jan. 29, 2025)

Windows[German]With a slight delay, Microsoft also released the optional cumulative (preview) update for Windows 11 23H2 (KB5050092) on January 29, 2025. This update contains corrections that can be tested and will then be rolled out generally as fixes in the following month. Mention should be made of the correction of the audio problems that became known a few days ago.

The list of updates for Windows 11 23J2 can be viewed on this Microsoft page. The preview update KB5050092 has been released for Windows 11 version 23H2. It provides new features and fixes for this Windows version. Microsoft states a number of improvements and corrections in this update.

  • [Task Manager] Fixed: The CPU index number might be wrong when you set process affinity. This occurs on servers that have two or more non-uniform memory access (NUMA) nodes.
  • [Remote desktop]
    • Fixed: When you reconnect to a console session, it stops responding.
    • Fixed: The Action Center does not display in certain scenarios.
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​[Virtual memory] Fixed: An issue depletes virtual memory, which might cause some apps to fail.
  • [Near Field Communication (NFC) readers] Fixed: At times, they fail to read card Universal Unique Identifiers (UUID). This occurs after many point-of-sale (POS) app scans.
  • [USB Print and IPP Over USB] Fixed: An installed printer fails when the spooler initializes.
  • [Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP)] This update adds support for Y210, Y216, Y410, and Y416 for the High Efficiency Image File (HEIF) format.
  • [Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist file (DriverSiPolicy.p7b)] This update adds to the list of drivers that are at risk for Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks.
  • [Remote Desktop Gateway] Fixed: You get errors or cannot sign when you connect to Windows 11 workstations. This occurs when you enforce device redirection.

The update is offered via Windows Update, but can also be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog. The latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU) is integrated to fix various problems.
