[German]The Arduino electronics platform is to be acquired by processor manufacturer Qualcomm for an undisclosed sum, with the brand name remaining unchanged. At the same time, new boards have been announced.
Arduino is an open-source platform consisting of software and hardware. The hardware consists of a simple I/O board with a microcontroller and analog and digital inputs and outputs. The development environment is designed to make programming and microcontrollers more accessible to those with less technical expertise.
Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has announced that it will acquire the Italian open-source electronics platform Arduino for an undisclosed amount. The Arduino brand will be retained. At the same time, Arduino is launching a Raspberry Pi-like board. It is the Uno Q single-board computer equipped with a Qualcomm processor.
Arduino also announced this deal in its blog post, writing that the UNO Q is a next-generation board with a "dual-brain" design.
- A Linux® Debian-enabled microprocessor with Qualcomm Dragonwing™ QRB2210 processor, featuring AI and graphics acceleration, quad-core performance, and camera/audio/display support.
- A real-time microcontroller STM32U585 for precise control and responsiveness.
Qualcomm Technologies sees products such as UNO Q and the planned acquisition of Arduino as an opportunity to open new doors for developers worldwide, Arduino writes in its blog. The Verge has published a few sentences about this acquisition here.
