Irgend jemand ist die Open Source-Software OpenHasTab wohl ein Dorn im Auge. Die entsprechende GitHub-Seite wurde daher Anfang Mai 2026, nach einer Digital Millennium Copyright Act-Beschwerde (DMCA) offline genommen.
OpenHashTab ist eine beliebte Open-Source-Windows-Shell-Erweiterung, die sich nahtlos in das Windows-Kontextmenü sowie die Dateieigenschaften integriert. Sie ermöglicht es, Prüfsummen (wie MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256) zu berechnen und Dateiinhalte auf Manipulationen zu prüfen.
Ein Nutzer hat mich Ende Juni 2026 informiert, dass die Github-Präsenz gesperrt worden sei. Dort findet sich die Meldung:

Ich habe dazu folgende Erklärung gefunden (siehe Diskussion):
Das OpenHashTab GitHub-Repository wurde am 7. Mai 2026 aufgrund einer DMCA-Urheberrechtsbeschwerde gesperrt. Die Beschwerde wurde eingereicht, weil das Projekt proprietären Quellcode (vermeintlich eine Datei namens LegacyHasher.cpp) enthielt, der ohne entsprechende Autorisierung öffentlich verfügbar gemacht wurde.
Kurz danach gab es einen Angriff auf GitHub – siehe Screenshot – bei dem 70 Pakete kompromittiert wurden.
