Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2 and JDBC driver 6.0 released

Just a short information for users of Microsoft's SQL Server. Microsoft has released a Service Pack 2 (SP2) for SQL Server 2014. And there are a new Microsoft JDBC Driver 6.0 and SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) for SQL Server are available.

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2

While Microsoft SQL Server 2016 has been released on June 2016, Microsoft also released a Service Pack 2 (SP2) for SQL Server 2014. Here's what's new (see release information in KB3171021):

SQL Server 2014 SP2, in addition to a rollup of released hotfixes including SQL 2014 SP1 CU7 contains 20+ improvements centered around performance, scalability and diagnostics based on the feedback from customers and SQL community. These improvements enable SQL Server 2014 to perform faster and scale out of the box on modern hardware design.

SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT)

A few days ago, Microsoft has published a blog article Developing Databases using Always Encrypted with SQL Server Data Tools that shows, how to develop databases using Always Encrypted. Always Encrypted is a feature in SQL Server 2016 and Azure SQL Database that ensures your sensitive data is never revealed in plaintext to the database system.

JDBC driver 6.0

Last week Microsoft also announced the full release of JDBC Driver 6.0 for SQL Server. You can now use Always Encrypted with the Microsoft JDBC Driver 6.0 for SQL Server 2016 and Azure SQL Database.
