Some users are having trouble installing updates in Windows 10. Windows reports update error 0x80072EE7. What to do, to fix this issue?

I stumbled upon this issue within a (German) Microsoft answers forum post. The user bought a new Windows 10 sytem. After unpacking and running the first Windows 10 OEM install, the machine received a 4 GB download (I suppose a feature upgrade). But the install of this package failed  with error 0x80072EE7.

Error code 0x80072EE7 stands for ERROR_INTERNET_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED, which means a server name or a server address could not be solved from Windows Update. In most cases third party firewalls or internet security suites are causing this issue and preventing access to Microsoft's update servers.

You can check, whether proxy settings are wrong using Settings app in Windows 10 (or Internet options in other Windows builds). See my blog post Windows 10 V 1607 fails with Windows Update error 0x80D05001 how to check proxy settings. I recommend also file system integrity check (see Check and repair Windows system files and component store).
