.NET Framework Preview Update KB4481488/4480096

Windows Update[German]On January 15, 2019 Microsoft released the preview rollup update KB4481488 for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2 as well as KB4480096 .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1 and 4.7.2 for Windows 7.

I was offered this update KB4481488 under Windows 7 SP1 as optional. Both updates are also available in the Microsoft Update Catalog. As preview updates, however, the installation is not absolutely necessary.

Update KB4481488 for .NET Framework

Update KB4481488 is a preview of the quality rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2 for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. The download size is 64.2 MB for 64-bit systems. 

  • All updates for .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, and 4.7.2 require that the d3dcompiler_47.dll update is installed. We recommend that you install the included d3dcompiler_47.dll update before you apply this update. For more information about d3dcompiler_47.dll, see KB 4019990.
  • If you install a language pack after you install this update, you must reinstall this update. Therefore, it is recommended that you install all required language packs before installing this update. For more information, see Adding Language Packs to Windows.

You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Update KB4480096 for .NET Framework

Update KB4480096 is a preview of the quality rollup for .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, and 4.7.2 for Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 and .NET Framework 4.6 for Server 2008 SP2. 

The January 2019 Update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) includes improved cumulative reliability in .NET Framework 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, and 4.7.2. Microsoft recommends these updates as part of regular maintenance routines. Details, including requirements, are listed in the KB article.
