I don't use Instagram myself, but I just stumbled across the information here. When I tried to visit instagram.com, I got this message.
The website allestoerungen.de as well as downdetector.com shows a massive increase in the number of fault reports at midnight.
At Twitte, the hash tag #instagramdown has many posts about the Instagram outage.

No I don't have an explanation for the worldwide failure. Somehow it's not the right day – today at noon the platform mewe.com was also not reachable.
