Tablet PCs market is rather difficult, people don't buy the stuff anymore. Google has therefore announced to give up its commitment to developing its own Tablet PC models.

The message: Google's HARDWARE team will focus exclusively on building laptops, so we are taking a step forward. Tablet PCs at Google have thus died. Only the Android & Chrome OS teams will continue their long-term cooperation with Google's partners on tablets for all market segments (consumers, companies, Edu).
