Microsoft Office Patchday (January 7, 2020)

[German]On January 7, 2020 (first Tuesday of the month. Office Patchday) Microsoft released a series of non-security updates for versions of Microsoft Office (this time only for Office 2016) that are still supported.

The updates apply to the installable MSI version of Office and are provided through Windows Update. Click-to-run packages receive updates through other channels. For this reason, Office 2019 no longer appears in the following list because only click-to-run installers are available there. Microsoft lists the updates on this page

Office 2016

The packages are automatically distributed via Windows Update, but can also be manually downloaded and installed via the linked KB articles as downloads. 

  • Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB4464586): This update enables users to bypass logon prompts when they access a resource in a private domain over an external network connection if the request is made by using the Negotiate authentication scheme. 
  • Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB4484168): Fixes several bugs in PowerPoint 2016 that are described in the KB article.
  • Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB4484218): This update fixes an issue that causes the ODBC Data Sources application to exit after you create an ODBC DSN (Data Source Name) that connects to a source (such as .accdb or .xlsx files) by using the Access Database Engine. 
  • Update for Microsoft Outlook 2016 (KB4484212): Fixes several errors in Microsoft Outlook 2016 that are described in the KB article. 
  • Update for Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 (KB4484216): Fixes several errors in Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 that are described in the KB article.
  • Update for Microsoft Project 2016 (KB4484140): Fixes several bugs in Microsoft Project 2016 that are described in the KB article.
  • Update for Microsoft Visio 2016 (KB4464575): Fixes the bug when you open a .vsdx file from Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive, or a Web location that causes Microsoft Visio to crash if the URL of the file contains an ampersand (&) character.
  • Update for Microsoft Visio Viewer 2016 (KB2920709): This update fixes issues in the Visio Viewer that are caused by duplicate window class names.
  • Update for Microsoft Word 2016 (KB4484219): Fixes some Bugs in UNC paths (Universal Naming Convention), an in Chinese characters are displayed as overlapping, as described within the support article. 
  • Update for Skype for Business 2016 (KB4484213): Raises Microsoft Skype for Business 2016 to version 16.0.4954.1000.

There were no updates for older versions of Office.
