Update KB4502496 for Windows

Security update KB4502496 was released by Microsoft on February 11, 2020 (see Patchday: Updates for Windows 7/8.1/Server (Feb. 11, 2020)). The update was available for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 and was intended to fix a vulnerability in the UEFI firmware.

Addresses an issue in which a third-party Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) boot manager might expose UEFI-enabled computers to a security vulnerability.

The update was distributed via Windows Update and WSUS, but could also be found in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

German blog reader Gerold informed in this comment (thanks) that Microsoft has withdrawn the update KB4502496 for Windows 10 v1507, Windows 8.1, RT 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 and Server 2012.

Important

This standalone security update has been removed due to an issue affecting a sub-set of devices. It will not be re-offered from Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or Microsoft Update Catalog.

Note Removal of this standalone security update does not affect successful installation or any changes within any other February 11, 2020 security updates, including Latest Cumulative Update (LCU), Monthly Rollup or Security Only update.

The reason is mentioned in the Known Issues section by Microsoft. Problems may occur during or after the installation of KB4502496. So exactly what happened with update KB4524244 (see Windows 10: Update KB4524244 pulled). Microsoft does not want to offer this update again, but will revise it and release it later under a new KB number.
