[German]On July 22, 2020, Microsoft not only released the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20175. An ISO installation file was also released. In addition, there were load restrictions to install the new build on AMD systems. But this is fixed now.

Windows 10 Build 20175: Not offered on AMD systems

One of the highlights of the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20175 was that it should also be available for AMD CPUs. Because these systems had not received the previous build and users have been facing expiration warnings since days (see my German blog post Windows Insider bekommen Ablaufwarnungen). I pointed this out in the blog post Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20175 released.

But users with AMD-CPUs were the first to get the worst of it on July 22, 2020 – the new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20175 was not offered as an update. Microsoft has published this post on the subject. The developers identified a problem on the server that prevented the distribution of Insider Preview on AMD systems.

Today we released Build 20175 to the Dev Channel, and as you may be aware, some devices were not offered this build from Windows Update. Several of you reported this issue immediately, and we thank you for that!

We discovered a service side issue that prevented some AMD and Intel devices from detecting the new build. This issue has been resolved on the backend. If you were impacted, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. In the search box, type CMD.exe.
  3. On the right menu under Command Prompt, select Run as administrator.
  4. If prompted by UAC, choose Yes.
  5. From the elevated prompt, enter this command, then hit enter: net stop wuauserv
  6. Enter this command, then hit enter: rmdir /s /q C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\SLS
  7. Finally, enter this command, then hit enter: net start wuauserv
  8. Close the Command Prompt window.
  9. Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Then the new build 20175 should be offered. In the meantime, however, users confirm that the update is also offered without intervention. Here a Tweet about it.

Neowin.net had reported about the problem here.
