Adobe Flash is reaching now the End

SicherheitJust a small reminder for users of Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Adobe and Microsoft will retire the Flash Player today (December 31, 2020) – Flash has reached the end of the product's lifecycle.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that Adobe Flash will reach the End of Life (EOL) at the End of 2020 (see my blog posts Adobe Flash Player 32.0.0.465 – the last update and Update KB4577586 removes Flash in Windows 8 – 10/Server). Now I recognized this Tweet that reminds us on this date.

Microsoft says, that Support for Adobe Flash Player will End on December 31, 2020 – Flash is currently disabled by default in the new Microsoft Edge. However, users may re-enable it on a site-by-site basis through December of 2020.

  • In January 2021, Flash will be fully removed from the new Microsoft Edge. The schedule of changes is available here.

  • Flash will not be disabled by default from the legacy version of Microsoft Edge (built on EdgeHTML) or Internet Explorer 11 prior to its removal in December of 2020.

This means that starting January 2021, customers will no longer receive security updates for support for Adobe Flash Player. Microsoft will also take steps to remove Flash from the Windows operating system.
