Windows 10 Version 21H2 in broad deployment (April 15, 2022)

Windows[German]Microsoft has again expanded the range of machines to which the Windows 10 November 2021 Update (21H2) will be offered after its release in November 2021 (see Windows 10 November 2021 Update (21H2) released). Windows 10 20H2 was already updated to version 21H2 in January 2022 (see Windows 10 20H2 will be upgraded to Windows 21H2 (January 20, 2022)). This is because older Windows 10 versions will drop out of support in May 2022 (Windows 10: Version 1909 and 20H2 reaching end of support on May 10, 2022).

Windows 10 November 2021 Update (21H2)

The Windows 10 November 2021 Update has the internal version designation 21H2, and is the second feature update for 2021 (as well as the current Windows 10 version). Distributed so far, this update is only for select devices with older Windows 10 versions that are compatible.

Windows 10 21H2, similar to Windows 10 version 1903/1909 and Windows 10 version 2004/20H2, will only be rolled out as a small feature update for the older versions like 20H2. For this, the changes are already prepared via monthly updates in the existing Windows 10 versions 20H2 and 21H2. For the release, only the few KByte Enablement Update KB5000736 is required via Windows Update or WSUS. However, this is only offered on suitable machines and will not be available via the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Interested users could previously open the Windows Update settings page under Windows 10 20H2 and 21H1 (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update) and select the Check for updates button there. If the machine was classified as compatible, the user was offered the feature update. In the status area of Windows 10 version 21H2, Microsoft announced the broad availability of the rollout on April 15, 2022. It now says there:

Windows 10 21H2

Current status as of April 15, 2022 (PT)

Windows 10, version 21H2 is designated for broad deployment. As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 10 as soon as possible to ensure that you can take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from the latest security threats. For more details, see How to get the Windows 10 November 2021 Update.

If you are using Windows 10 and want to move to Windows 11, you can check if your device is eligible for the upgrade using the PC Health Check app or checking Windows 11 specs, features, and computer requirements. Note that you also need to be running Windows 10, version 2004 or later, have no safeguard holds applied to your device, and have a Microsoft Account (MSA) if using Home edition.

Microsoft recommends updating Windows 10 machines to the latest build quickly. This especially affects devices that are nearing the end of the maintenance period. Alternatively, it can also be checked whether it is possible to switch to Windows 11.

Microsoft continues to train the machine learning algorithms in all phases of the staged rollout. This rollout in waves has, after all, been in use for many years, and machine learning is also used to identify deployment issues early and suspend delivery on incompatible machines.
