[German]Microsoft has fixed a bug in Microsoft 365 that could cause the Outlook, Word and OneNote applications to crash under certain circumstances when typing. The fix is being rolled out with certain Microsoft 365 builds.

Crashes when typing
After the rollout of Microsoft 365 version 2407 build 17830.20138 (or later builds), users ran into the problem that the Outlook, Word and OneNote applications crashed when typing. Microsoft published the support article Outlook, Word, or OneNote unexpectedly close when typing on September 9, 2024, which addresses the problem.
For Outlook, Word and OneNote crashes when users are typing or performing other tasks such as spell checking, the application log can be searched for events 1000 or 1001 in the Windows Event Viewer.
There you will probably find the error code 0xc0000005 (Access Violation), which refers to a DLL file such as mscss7ge.dll, mscss7it.dll etc. The name of the DLL file depends on the installed language pack (mscss7it.dll for Italian, or mscss7ge.dll for German). The error code indicates that a memory access was rejected because it was unauthorized. The languages affected are probably EN, ES, FR, GE, IT, NP, PB.
The reason for this error is the fact that the DLL file for the language package stored in the following folder has not been updated to the current version.
C:\Programme\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\
Microsoft writes that these crashes are caused by mismatched versions between the Microsoft Office 2016 proofing tools (spelling tools) in conjunction with the Office language packs (from the Microsoft 365 apps for business).

The developers suggest that the mismatched versions of the spelling tools were installation leftovers from previous versions of Office that in the system when the Microsoft 365 apps were installed. However, the coexistence of Office 2016 alongside M365 apps is not supported due to the different installation technologies of the same version. This issue is fixed in the following builds:
Beta channel: Version 2409 (Build 18021.15000)
Current channel preview: Version 2409 (Build 18025.20000)
Current channel: Version 2409 (Build 18025.20000) ETA 24.9.24
Microsoft's advice for systems where the above builds have not yet been rolled out is to perform an online repair of Microsoft Office. If the event display contains references to the old language packs, these should be uninstalled via the Control Panel or the Properties window. The Office 365 language pack should then be reinstalled – as Microsoft describes here.
Problems as early as August 2024
I had already pointed out various issues with Outlook in the blog post Workaround for Outlook 365 crash (Aug. 2024) published by Microsoft. Microsoft had published the support article Classic Outlook unexpectedly closes at start up on faulting module ucrtbase.dll on August 16, 2024. It states that after updating Outlook for Microsoft 365 version 2407, build 17830.20138, unexpected crashes may occur at startup. Seems to have been a somewhat problematic build.
