Windows 10 22H2 Preview Update KB5043131 (September 24, 2024)

Windows[German]Microsoft has released an optional, cumulative (preview) update KB5043131 for Windows 10 22H2 on September 24, 2024 (D-Week). This is intended to fix numerous bugs in Windows 10 22H2. Below is an overview of these updates for Windows 10.

Windows 10 Preview Update KB5043131

Cumulative Preview Update KB5043131 is available for Windows 10 version 22H2 (all versions). The support article contains a list of fixes that Microsoft has specified for the update (these will be included in the security update for the following month).

  • [Start menu] New! This update moves your profile picture to different positions. There is also a new background color for the left pane on the menu. This color change makes the items on the pane stand out more. This change might not be available to all users because it will roll out gradually.
  • [IE mode] Microsoft Edge sometimes stops responding when you use IE mode. ​​​​​​​
  • [Media playback] Playback of some media might stop when you use certain surround sound technology.

The update also includes the following bug fixes:

  • [Country and Operator Settings Asset] This update brings COSA profiles up to date for certain mobile operators.
  • [File Explorer and taskbar] Windows server stops responding when you use apps like File Explorer and the taskbar.
  • [Windows Update opt-in notifications] They now appear when you sign in.
  • [Directory enumeration] This might fail if a directory has symbolic links that have long target names.
  • [Microsoft Defender for Endpoint] Work Folders files fail to sync when Defender for Endpoint is on.

The update is optional and is offered via Windows Update if the user explicitly searches for updates on the Settings page and then selects the optional update for download and installation. The update can also be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog. The latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU) is integrated.
