According to Bleeping Computer , iPhones and Android smartphones switched to SOS mode and were no longer able to make mobile calls. Only WiFi calling still worked. According to the provider, the disruption, which mainly occurred in the east of the USA where damage was caused by a hurricane, has since been rectified.

9to5mac.com also picked up on the disruption in this article. Verizon then confirmed the outage 13 hours ago and wrote 5 hours ago that the cellular network was back up and running. The whole thing has hit US citizens on the East Coast hard, as they are still struggling with the effects of Hurricane Helene.
