[German]Microsoft has just discontinued the VPN service (privacy protection) integrated in Microsoft Defender. This VPN service for individual users is to be phased out at the end of February 2025. The use of this function does not seem to have been very widespread, as I read between the lines of the Microsoft announcement.

Microsoft announced the discontinuation of the VPN service in the article End of support-Privacy protection (VPN) in Microsoft Defender for individuals. Regarding the question of why the VPN service is being removed, Microsoft notes the following:
Our goal is to ensure you, and your family remain safer online. We routinely evaluate the usage and effectiveness of our features. As such, we are removing the privacy protection feature and will invest in new areas that will better align to customer needs.
The privacy protection feature (VPN) in Defender will be discontinued on February 28, 2025. Microsoft Defender will continue to provide data and device protection, identity theft monitoring, and threat alerts to keep users safer online. Microsoft Defender requires a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription. Further details can be found in the linked Microsoft support article. (via)
