[German]Mozilla Firefox 115 ESR still runs on Windows 7 / 8.1 and has been in extended support for some time. It was previously known that the developers wanted to support this browser version until March 2025. The Mozilla developers have now confirmed that Firefox 115 ESR support for some older Windows and macOS operating systems will be guaranteed until September 2025.

Extended Support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1
Firefox browser version 115 ESR has been in extended support since May 2023. The development team announced at the time that Firefox 115 would be the last browser version to run on the Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 operating systems. I pointed this out in the blog post Firefox switches to Extended Support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1.
In April 2023, I also reported in the blog post Windows 7/8.1: Firefox will be support until 3. Q. 2024 at least that Mozilla has committed to supporting Firefox for users of Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 until at least Q3 2024. Although the operating systems have fallen out of support, Mozilla will continue to offer Firefox for these platforms until 2024.
Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have long since fallen out of support at Microsoft. There are only tricks to provide updates for these operating systems (see Windows Server 2012 / R2 und Windows 7 (June 11, 2024)). As a result, support from third-party software for these operating systems is currently declining.
Planning for extended support
In July 2024, there was then an indication that Mozilla is aiming to extend support for Windows 7 beyond the planned date (Q3 2024). My last update was that Firefox will be discontinued in March 2025 (see Firefox 115 support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 until March 2025).
Now there is another extension of Firefox support for Windows 7, as I read here and here. This is probably based on a post in the Firefox 128 ESR Release Calendar.

It states that the developer team has decided to extend support for ESR 115 only for Windows 7-8.1 and macOS 10.12-10.14 until September 2025. The developers plan to re-evaluate this decision in August 2025 and then announce any end-of-life updates for ESR 115.
