Microsoft 365 Family subscription reported as "cancelled" (April 10, 2025)

[German]If your Microsoft 365 Family subscription is currently "jerking", it could be Microsoft again. At the very least, Microsoft has stated that it is aware of a problem with "Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions". Specifically, there are more and more reports from people who have been told that a subscription that still valid for a long time has been canceled. Microsoft 365 can no longer be used.

The Microsoft Cloud is not really running smoothly at the moment. Yesterday I reported on an Exchange Admin Center (EAC) disruption, see my German blog post EX1051697: Exchange Admin Center (EAC) weltweit gestört (9. April 2025). Today Exchange Online is on strike with regard to the "Send As" function for shared mailboxes (see Exchange Online: Berechtigung "Senden als" auf Shared Mailbox gestört (10.4.2025)). Does not affect all users.

Reports of Microsoft 365 Family subscription problems

German blog reader Christian Krause has reported in this German comment on the article Office 2016-Update KB5002623 vom 10.4.2025 behebt Abstürze in Excel, Outlook, Word and writes that today (10.4.2025) he is receiving increased feedback that Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions says "Your subscription has been canceled" despite active subscription status.

The subscriptions are valid until 2027. The reader writes: "This is correct, retail codes have been stored in the account". But Microsoft 265 cannot be used because it is not activated. In later comments, he wrote about six people, only to later report 30 computers with this error.

Microsoft confirms a problem

I have just read on X (see following image) that Microsoft is currently aware of a problem with Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions.

Another user posted a screenshot in the above tweet. There, subscribers are told that their subscription has just been canceled. This corresponds exactly to the error description that Christian posted as a comment here in the blog. The user writes that it took Microsoft an hour to confirm the problem. During this time, he had to explain this "terrible red" error to at least 30 customers.

However, Microsoft is being very tight-lipped about the details of the "known issue". It only mentions that users with Microsoft 365 Family Subscription could not access the services. In concrete terms, this means No Office 365 application can be used. In the status portal, Microsoft 365 (Consumer) states this in a trivializing way:

Title: Some users may be unable to access Microsoft 365 services

User impact: Users with Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions may be unable to access Microsoft 365 services.

Current status: We're investigating a potential licensing issue that may be causing impact to occur.
