Operating system share (End of May 2025); Windows 11 don't climb

Windows[German]It's June 2025 and Statcounter's figures on operating system distribution on the desktop are available again for the end of May 2025. Since Windows 10 will no longer be supported in October 2025, Windows 11 is the only option for many users. But it looks like Windows 11 has not been able to make up any ground in the last two months.

Operating system share all platforms

The website statcounter.com has published the market shares of various operating systems (desktop, mobile devices) here. At the end of May 2025, Android accounted for 46.14%, a further slight increase. Windows has fallen to 25.09% and has fallen slightly in user favor with 17.91% for iOS, while OS X (3.63%) and macOS have fallen to 3.63%. These could be the normal fluctuations of the "measurement".

The list of Windows operating system shares on the desktop then gives this picture: Windows 10 comes in at 53.2%, while Windows 11 is at 43.23%. If you look at the chart, there has been little movement in the last three months. Some people may even have switched back to Windows 10. Windows 7 still runs on 2.47% of systems, while Windows 8.1 hardly plays a role anymore with 0.29%.

Windows 10 is still the number one on desktop systems and is likely to remain so in the coming months, is my conclusion.

Browser: Chrome kills everything

It was interesting for me to take a look at the browser distribution on this Statcounter page. The Google Chrome browser is the undisputed leader with a market share of 65.94%. Apple's Safari browser comes in at 17.58%, while Microsoft's Edge is at 5.39%. Firefox even only has a meagre 2.48%.
