[German]Does anyone have the problem that their OneDrive search no longer returns any results, but shows empty results even though files should be found? Since January 2025, users have been complaining about a broken OneDrive search. Microsoft has now acknowledged such a problem and is investigating the issue.
Microsoft confirms OneDrive issues
The Microsoft support site Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in OneDrive describes existing problems with OneDrive on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS as well as on the web, and has received an update on June 19, 2025.
The new entry refers to the search in OneDrive on the Android, iOS, Web and Windows platforms and deals with a broken search.
It is said that some users find that there are no search results when searching the logged-in (personal) OneDrive account. The results page remains empty or no files are listed by the search, although it can be seen that these files exist in the personal OneDrive account and are also accessible.
Microsoft's developers are currently investigating this known issue, but do not yet have a plan as to what is causing the error and which users are affected. No timetable for a fix can yet be given either, they say. The support article states that they are aware of how problematic the broken search is for those affected. As soon as something is known, an update on the error status will be provided.
Issue known for months?
On my personal OneDrive account, which I used for testing, the search in the browser works. However, I have not set up a OneDrive client on either Android or Windows 10.
I did a quick search on the web, maybe an AI knows the cause. But apart from "maybe the app is broken, or there was a synchronization error", the AI only came up with the razor-sharp conclusion "the OneDrive search is broken" as the cause.the new entry refers to the search in OneDrive in the Android, iOS, Web and Windows platforms and deals with a broken search.
Hits in March 2025 in the German Microsoft Answers forum
But the web search did return a hit in the German Microsoft Answers forum from mid-March 2025. Under the title Suchfunktion bei onedrive gibt keine ergebnisse mehr, warum? someone describes an error pattern that corresponds to the Microsoft diagnosis above.
The person concerned writes that the search for files or folders in OneDrive has not worked on any of his devices for some time. The search always returns the answer that no files / folders were found. The following screenshot (of the iOS app) of an unsuccessful search was posted in the forum post.
The hope that the problem would be solved with an update was unfortunately unfounded. Even the attempt to uninstall the iOS app and then reinstall it did not help. Also, the search in OneDrive does not work via a browser, writes the user and asks: "What can you do here?".
In the thread from the beginning of May 2025, other users report the same problems on Android, Windows 10 and in the browser. Displeasure spreads as to when the error will be fixed.
Hits in January 2025 in the English Microsoft Answers forum
Another search on the English-language Internet brought me to the Microsoft Answers forum post onedrive search bar not working in any device from January 13, 2025. There, a user complained that the OneDrive search via the search bar did not work in apps or in the browser and did not deliver any results.
This even applied to newly uploaded files. This occurred after the "latest design update", wrote the affected user, stating that a personal OneDrive account for which he pays was affected. The thread now has seven pages, and in the last entry on June 19, 2025, someone left a link to an article by colleagues at Bleeping Computer that deals with the issue discussed above.

For example, a search on the web brings up the reddit.com post Onedrive search on web is not searching any files (from April 2025), which deals with a broken OneDrive web search in the browser. And in this reddit.com post, someone reported back in January 2025 that the OneDrive search via browser for file content (M365 E3 or Family) was not working. So it's not just personal OneDrive accounts that are affected.
