[English]A small addendum from this week with good news for users and administrators of Microsoft Office 2024. The manufacturer has fixed a licensing bug that occurred during license management via Microsoft accounts.
Reports about license issues since 2024
Microsoft Office 2024 is generally available since September 2024. My research shows that the first licensing issues on Microsoft accounts (MSAs)encountered from Microsoft Office 2024 were in October 2024.
A buyer of a Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2024 package complained on October 13, 2024 that his purchased product was not listed in his Microsoft account under the list of purchased products.
On December 20, 2024, neowin.net took up the case in this article and reported an Office 2024 license bug. The article referred to a Microsoft support article that described the problem.
As soon as an Office license is managed via a Microsoft account (Microsoft Account, MSA), the details matter. If the Microsoft Account (MSA) contains both a license for Microsoft Office 2024 and a license for an earlier version of Microsoft Office, e.g. Office 2021, it can happen that after installing Office 2024, the earlier version of Office is still displayed in the backstage page instead of Office 2024. This should also occur on "pre-installed Office PCs" for companies when installing Microsoft Office 2024.
Microsoft had described in the support article Workarounds how this license display problem could be solved. However, this had nothing to do with the problem reported in April 2025 (see also my blog post Microsoft 365 Family subscription reported as "cancelled" (April 10, 2025)) that Microsoft 365 subscriptions were displayed as "expired".
Microsoft fixes the Office 2024 license problem
On June 18, 2025, the support article Office 2024 may appear as an earlier version of Office in the app backstage was updated by Microsoft (noticed here).
According to the support article, the bug described above should now be fixed. Anyone still suffering from the license display bug in the backstage area of Office 2024 should have the latest Office updates installed. If this does not help, the steps described as a workaround in the support article should also be carried out.
