Microsoft Lens app is being retired September 15, 2025

[German]The Microsoft Lens mobile app will be discontinued on September 15, 2025. Microsoft just announced this in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Its replacement will be—you guessed it—Microsoft Copilot.

The announcement of the discontinuation is linked to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center in the message MC1131064 – Microsoft Lens app will retire from August 7, 2025.

Microsoft Lens-App

The app was available for free download for mobile devices in the Apple Store for iPhones and in the Google Play Store for Android. The Microsoft Lens mobile app will be phased out for iOS and Android starting September 15, 2025. Here is the schedule with dates:

  • Mid-September 2025: Decommissioning begins.
  • Mid-October 2025: New installations of Microsoft Lens will be disabled in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Mid-November 2025: Microsoft Lens will be removed from the app stores.
  • Mid-December 2025: Users will no longer be able to create new scans in the Microsoft Lens app.

The change only affects users who have downloaded the free app for iOS or Android to create "scans." Existing scans will remain accessible in the app's "MyScans" folder. However, the scan function will no longer be supported.

To continue scanning documents, Microsoft recommends using the scan feature in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Microsoft plans to continue adding new features and improvements to this app. Scans stored in OneDrive are accessible via the "MyCreations" section in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Administrators may want to warn their users in advance. Microsoft has created this support article about the end of support.

Why does the saying "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail" come to mind at this point? I asked CoPilot, and this was his answer.
