Mozilla[German]The Mozilla developers has announced that they extend the support for Firefox 115 ESR for Windows 7 / 8.x and some macOS versions from September 2025 for another six month to March 2026.

Extended support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1

The Firefox browser has been in extended support since May 2023 in version 115 ESR. The development team announced at the time that Firefox 115 would be the last browser version to run on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems. I pointed this out in my blog post Firefox switches to Extended Support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1.

In April 2023, I also reported in the blog post Windows 7/8.1: Firefox will be support until 3. Q. 2024 at least that Mozilla had committed to supporting Firefox for users of Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 until at least the third quarter of 2024. Later, support was extended in stages until September 2025.

Microsoft has long since discontinued support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. There are only tricks to provide updates for these operating systems (see Windows Server 2012 / R2 und Windows 7 (June 11, 2024)). As a result, third-party software support for these operating systems is currently declining.

Extended support until March 2026

Firefox support for Windows 7, 8.X, and macOS 10.12-10.14 has been extended once again, as Mozilla announced in its article Extended Firefox ESR 115 Support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 and macOS 10.12-10.14 on September 4, 2025 (thanks to readers for pointing this out).

The post states that support for Firefox ESR 115 with security updates on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 will be extended until March 2026. This extension is intended to give users more time to transition while ensuring that important security features remain available. This extension also applies to users of macOS 10.12-10.14 who use Firefox ESR 115.
