[German]Asahi, one of Japan's largest breweries, has been the victim of a successful cyberattack. As a result of this attack, all deliveries have had to be halted, and orders are currently not being accepted. The company has not disclosed exactly what happened in a statement.
Asahi Group Holdings is a global company based in Japan that distributes beer, spirits, soft drinks, and food products. Asahi Europe & International is represented worldwide with its beverage brands, including in Germany. Some readers may be familiar with Asahi beer. With 30,000 employees and 100 million hectoliters of beverages produced in 2024, Asahi is one of Japan's largest breweries. The holding company generated annual sales of nearly $20 billion in 2024, as Bleeping Computer reports here.
In a statement dated September 29, 2025, Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. confirmed that it was currently experiencing a system failure caused by a cyberattack that was affecting operations in Japan.
At this time, there is no indication that personal or customer data has been disclosed to third parties. However, due to the system failure, the following operations have been suspended:
- Order and shipping processes at group companies in Japan
- Call center processes, including customer service
The company states that it is currently actively investigating the cause of the cyberattack and working to restore operations. However, no timeline for restoration can be given at this time. The system failure is limited to Japan. The whole thing sounds like a ransomware infection.
