Microsoft Admin Center down – there are certificate errors (Oct. 9, 2025)

[German]Brief information for administrators of Microsoft Cloud services. If someone cannot access the Microsoft Admin Center, it is not your fault. Since around 10:30 a.m., the Microsoft Admin Center has been down globally because a certificate expired. This comes after Microsoft 365 experienced issues yesterday (see Microsoft 365: Outage blocks Teams and Exchange Online (Oct. 8, 2025)).

German blog reader Jörg G. contacted us by email (thank you) and wrote under the subject line "Microsoft Admin Center outage" that "as of today, October 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., there appears to be a widespread outage of the Microsoft Admin Center." Portals that use or integrate the *.microsoft.com domain encounter a certificate error because the TLS certificate used is only issued for *.azureedge.net. The reader sent me the following screenshot.

Microsoft Admin Portal Zertifikatsfehler

Portals such as intune.microsoft.com and security.microsoft.com are affected, as are portals such as portal.azure.com, which integrate all sub-functions via the microsoft.com function. Although the portal can be opened there without a browser warning, it is empty.

Beispielfehler in Intune

It appears that work is already underway to fix the issue, but there are still various errors when accessing the portals (see screenshot above). Administrators currently have no regular access, which means that new devices cannot be onboarded via Intune, etc. The following information is currently available on the Service Health Status page.

Microsoft Service Health Status

It is confirmed that Microsoft Admin Center for Microsoft 365 (Business or Enterprise) is currently unavailable. The time given is October 9, 2025, 7:58 a.m. UTC. On reddit.com, someone in this thread also complains that they were greeted with "We are sorry, something went wrong. Please try refreshing the page in a few minutes. If the problem persists, please visit  status.cloud.microsoft for updates regarding known issues."

Microsoft365 Status

On X, Microsoft 365 Status confirms that they are working on this issue (see screenshot). Administrators who visit the portal can find more details under MO1168665.

Everything still seems to be working for users at present. Teams, Outlook (via Exchange Online, both desktop and OWA), OneDrive (both app and online portal), and SharePoint Online are still working. But if someone needs a new login, it seems to fail too.

One Response to Microsoft Admin Center down – there are certificate errors (Oct. 9, 2025)

  1. StanG says:

The statement "… certificate expired …" is not correct. The problem was with the Microsoft Azure Edge CDN servers that are used as the frontend for the web portals.

The issue casued a generic page to load, but that page did not contain the correct certificate. So the certificate issue was just collateral damage from the underlying issue with the service.
