Microsoft Edge: Primary password to be discontinued in summer 2026

Edge[German]Brief information for users of the Microsoft Edge browser who have used a so-called primary password. Microsoft has just declared this feature "deprecated" and will remove it by summer 2026.

This information can be found in the release summary of the announcement for version 145.0.3800.70: February 20, 2026 (Stable) dated February 20, 2026. It states:

Custom primary password deprecation. Users will no longer be able to create a new custom primary password in Edge Settings edge://settings/autofill/passwords/settings. Users who already have a custom primary password configured will see a warning that the feature will not be available from June 4, 2026. On June 4, 2026, any users who are still using a custom primary password will be automatically migrated to device authentication.
