[German]Lenovo will increasingly rely on Linux in the future. While various workstation systems with Linux pre-installed were already available in the past, Lenovo is now expanding the program. In the future 20 Thinkpad and ThinkStation models will available with a preinstalled Ubuntu LTS Linux.

In the server area, Linux has long been established at Lenovo (see this Lenovo page). Now the topic came to my attention yesterday at Softpedia. The following models should be available for buyers with a pre-installed current Ubuntu LTS from Cannonical (first devices will already be available with Linux now, the last modells will be offered with Linux preinstalled in 2021).

The ThinkPad-L-Notebooks comes with Ubuntu LTS 18.04 pre-installed, whilst all other models receive a pre-installed Ubuntu LTS 20.04. Igor Bergman, Vice President of PCSD Software & Cloud at Lenovo says:

Our announcement of device certification in June was a step in the right direction to enable customers to more easily install Linux on their own. Our goal is to remove the complexity and provide the Linux community with the premium experience that our customers know us for. This is why we have taken this next step to offer Linux-ready devices right out of the box.
This does not mean that Lenovo is now kicking Windows 10. But the popularity of Lenovo computers with the Linux community is taken into account and the devices are offered either with Linux or Windows 10. The argument that Windows is so popular because of the pre-installation on OEM systems is off the table, at least for Lenovos. Will be exciting to watch how it goes on. Also Dell offers the notebook XPS 13 optionally with Linux.
