Windows 10: Synaptics touchpad settings lost after logout or reboot

After upgrading a system to Windows 10, some users are facing an issue with Synaptics touchpad. The settings are lost after logout or reboot the machine.

The issues is discussed within this Microsoft Answers thread. The explanation is that Cortana brought up 3 or 4 finger tap, so the Synaptics touchpad settings are changed. After altering thouse settings, this properties are getting lost during logoff or reboot. The solution is mentioned within the MS Answers forum or here.

1. Launch registry editor regedit.exe via Run as administrator and navigate to the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install.

2. Double click the DWORD value DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade and set the value to 0.

After rebooting the system, the touchpad settings should remain.

    tried this many times on an HP envy with Synaptics V19.3.31.31. newer versions of the driver remove a lot of settings and short cuts so I had saved this version but after a clean windows install i cannot get a profile/shortcuts to stick
    any pointers?
