Some Windows users are facing error code 0x80070008 or 0x8007000E during Windows Update. Others are receiving those error codes during Windows Backup. Here are a few hints, what causes those error codes.

I came across those errors within Microsoft Answers Forum, where users are receiving those error codes during Windows Update or trough Windows Backup. I've seen also cases, where upgrading to Windows 10 stalls with this error code.
What does error code 0x8007000E and 0x80070008 stands for?
According to my blog post How to decode Windows errors? the error codes are HRESULT codes, that stands for to memory problems:
- 0x8007000E, E_OUTOFMEMORY, Failed to allocate necessary memory
- 0x80070008, ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY, Not enough storage is available to process this command (see)
So it's a good ideas, to dig into that directions, if Windows throw those error codes during Update or Backup.
Check for missing free space
If one of the error codes mentioned above is given during Window Update, check, if the Windows system partition has enough free space. Check also, if the partition "System reserved" doesn't run out of space. For Windows 7 Microsoft propose to run Windows Update Troubleshooter. If that doesn't help, try the following suggestions.
To much Language packs installed
If several language packs has been installed under Windows, this can limit free space. Microsoft recommends uninstalling language packs, as you can read within this MS Answers forum thread.

Third party tools (Internet Security Suites)
I've also hints, that third party tools like Internet Security Suites are causing a low free space error. This is confirmed within this Microsoft post:
Close all programs, including ones that run in the background, such as firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, or proxy servers, and then run Windows update again.
I found also other German Microsoft Answers forum posts, where errors in internet connections are named as a root cause for this error. The recommendation was/is: Uninstall all third party Firewalls, AntiSpyware tools, Internet-Security-Suites and Antivirus software from third party vendors.
It's also a good idea, to check Windows for damaged files, according to my blog post Check and repair Windows system files and component store.
Error 0x80070008 during Windows Backup
If error 0x80070008 occurs during Windows Backup, it's often the case, that the partition „System reserved" is full, and volume shadow copies can't be written. In this case, it helps to grab a third party partition tool and increase the partition „System reserved" (see).
