Trend Micro Business Endpoint: Windows 10 V1809 support

[German]A brief  information for administrators in a business environment who use Trend Micro Business Endpoint (TMBE) and also use systems with Windows 10. Even though the rollout is currently stopped, the question is whether TMBE will be compatible with Windows 10 October 2018 Update. There are extremely exciting developments here. Microsoft and Trend Micro ensures that there are no compatibility issues with the Trend Micro software before the rollout of the feature update.

There is always the risk that installed software is not compatible with a new build when Windows 10 is updated via feature updates. At best, the installed software will no longer run, at worst the installation of the feature update will fail. This is particularly bad in business environments. For Trend Micro Business Endpoint, there are interesting innovations with regard to Windows 10 V1809 support.

Trend Micro Timetable

Blog reader Thomas B. informed me by mail about the Trend Micro article here, in which you can find information when the software should be compatible.

Trend Micro is therefore planning to make their products stepwise compatible with Windows 10. The table above shows that Trend Micro plans to update its products until mid-November 2018.

Trend Micro blocker for feature updates coming soon

An item that has always caused trouble with feature updates is the question: Is my antivirus scanner installed on the client compatible with the new version? Trend Micro has announced an interesting innovation, which can be found as a remark at the end of this article.

*Special Note — Trend Micro has requested a Windows Update (WU) Offer Block as well as a Setup Block from Microsoft. Please note that this only applies to OfficeScan, OfficeScan As a Service, Worry-Free Business Security, and Worry-Free Business Security Services (hosted) products.

Offer Block – if a customer tries to retrieve and apply the Windows 10 October 2018 Update via Windows Update before applying the required Trend Micro Critical Patch (CP) – validated by certain driver versions – it will not be able to obtain the update for a period of 60 days from the official release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Please note there will be no warning message.

Setup Block – if a customer tries to apply the Windows 10 October 2018 Update via an installation package before applying the required Trend Micro Critical Patch (CP) – again validated by certain driver versions – a warning message will appear notifying the customer to first upgrade the Trend Micro product.

So Trend Micro has requested Microsoft to provide an update blocker for Windows Update for the specified products. This update blocker prevents Windows 10 October 1018 Update (V1809) from shipping to clients if no compatible Trend Micro product is installed on the machine. Seems helpful.
