Update KB4461585 fixes Outlook 2010 crash

Windows Update[German]Small addendum to November 2018 Patchday: Microsoft released update KB4461585 on November 21, 2018. This fixes the Outlook 2010 crash caused by a previous update.

Update KB4461529 for Outlook 2010 causes crashes

Security update KB4461529 for Outlook 2010 SP2 should close several security vulnerabilities at once: 

  • CVE-2018-8522, Remote Code Execution vulnerability 
  • CVE-2018-8524, Remote Code Execution vulnerability
  • CVE-2018-8576, Remote Code Execution vulnerability
  • CVE-2018-8582, Remote Code Execution vulnerability

I've described the Office security updates that were released on November 13, 2018 in the blog post Patchday Microsoft Office Updates (November 13, 2018). Unfortunately, 64-bit Outlook 2010 users discovered that the application crashed after they installed the update. I had raised this in the blog post Issues with November 2018 Office (2010); patches pulled.

Update KB4461585 fixes Outlook 2010 crash

On November 21, 2018, Microsoft released the update KB4461585 for Outlook 2010. The only purpose is to fix the Outlook crash.

This update fixes the following issue: After you install the 64-bit version of security update 4461529, Outlook 2010 may crash on startup.

This update is also available for manual download and installation in the Microsoft Download Center as a download update KB4461585 for 64-bit version of Outlook 2010. Please note that the update is only relevant and available for the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010. (via)
