KB4489892 (Preview Monthly Rollup) Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2
Update KB4489892 (Preview Rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) contains improvements and bug fixes that will be rolled out in the following month. The update addresses the following items:
- Addresses an issue with a Microsoft Access 97 database that stops a requested operation when a table or column has custom properties.
- Addresses an issue with Microsoft Office Visual Basic for Applications that fails to use the Japanese Era registry settings for dates in the Japanese format. For more information, see KB4469068.
- Updates time zone information for Kazakhstan.
- Updates time zone information for São Tomé and Príncipe.
- Addresses an issue that prevents users from enabling gan-nen support for the Japanese Era. For more information, see KB4469068.
- Improves performance related to case-insensitive string comparison functions such as _stricmp() in the Universal C Runtime.
- Addresses an issue in which the graphics device interface (GDI) DeleteObject() may cause the calling process to stop working when both of the following conditions are true:
- The calling process is a WOW64 process that handles memory addresses larger than 2 GB.
- The DeleteObject() is called with a device context that is compatible with a printer device context.
The update is automatically downloaded and installed by Windows Update. It can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Microsoft strongly recommends that you install the latest Service Stack Update (SSU) KB4490628 before installing the latest rollup. With Windows Update, the SSU is automatically offered before the installation.
Since this is a preview rollup, I would hide KB4467108, because the preview rollup update has two known issues:
Advertising
- fter installing this update, Internet Explorer 10 may experience authentication problems. As a workaround, Microsoft suggests that a separate account be created for each user to work around this bug.
- After installing this security update, custom URI schemes for application protocol handlers cannot launch the appropriate application for the local intranet and trusted Web sites in Internet Explorer.
Also for the second bug, Microsoft specifies a workaround to mitigate the problem. Microsoft is working to fix these problems and will provide a fix later.
Updates for Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2
A preview rollup update has been released for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. The update history for Windows 8.1 can be found on this web page.
KB4489893 (Preview Monthly Rollup) Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2
Update KB4489893 s available for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 as Preview of Monthly Rollup. This is not a security update. The preview rollup addresses the following isssues:

- Addresses an issue with Microsoft Office Visual Basic for Applications that fails to use the Japanese Era registry settings for dates in the Japanese format. For more information, see KB4469068.

- The calling process is a WOW64 process that handles memory addresses larger than 2 GB.
- The DeleteObject() is called with a device context that is compatible with a printer device context.
- Addresses minor issues with unknown options (unknown OPT) in the Extension Mechanisms for DNS (EDNS) for the Windows DNS Server role.
- Addresses an issue that may cause a Scheduled Task that has a daily repetition interval to run twice.
Also in this Preview Rollup Update the Japanese calendar and Access 97 will be patched (Microsoft has been working on this since Nov. 2018 and February 2019). The update is automatically downloaded and installed by Windows Update. It can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
In addition to the issues described for Windows 7 with IE 11 authentication and the Custom URI Schemes for Application Protocol Handlers problem, this update has other bugs in MSXML6 that cause the Group Policy Editor to stop working. In addition, there may be issues with the Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) after installing this update. Details can be found in the KB article. Since this is a preview rollup, I would hide KB4467108.
