Caution with Surface Pro 7 Wi-Fi driver

[German]If you have purchased a new Surface Pro 7 (possibly also the Surface Laptop 3), be careful when installing the WLAN drivers. Otherwise you probably may end with serious issues.

Surface specialist and MVP colleague Barb Bowman points out a possible issue within the following tweet.

Microsoft uses custom Wi-Fi drivers for the device. If someone comes up with the idea of installing the generic Intel Wi-Fi drivers, this will not be blocked. But WLAN problems with the device are not fixed by the driver. Once the generic Intel WLAN driver has been installed, there are more problems and you can't go back to the original custom driver.

Background: With Windows 10 V1903 there are WLAN issues with various Intel WLAN chips (see Windows 10 V1903: Know issues (Wi-Fi etc.) updated). And in August 2019 I had published the article Surface Firmware Update causes WiFi issues about WLAN issuesin connection with a firmware update.

Have this problem on Surface Laptop 3 (Intel). Installed latest Intel driver, which did not work. Tried revert back to old driver with Windows update, but did not work either.
